A comprehensive 12-month programme structured into three phases was run for Grade 10 girls at the target school. The three phases focused on : Self-Development (healing emotional wounds and personal values), Experiential Learning (leading school-wide projects like anti-teenage pregnancy campaigns), and Leadership Development (advanced 2 communication and problem-solving). The training culminated in a graduation ceremony that also featured drama and poetry created by the learners in the programme. 45 direct Grade 10 girl learners and 2 educators were reached by the project, with a ripple effect impacting 2,000 learners and 30 educators. 380 school peers were also reached through drama and poetry activities and an awareness campaign about teenage pregnancy. The programme achieved remarkable results, including a shift from 21% to 79% in learners’ self-awareness and an increase from 37% to 82% in their preparedness to confront social injustices. Participants also successfully executed a teenage pregnancy awareness event that reached 380 peers and exceeded initial targets. The organisation has replicated and scaled the project to seven additional high schools across Soweto, Mamelodi, and Ivory Park, as it continues to nurture and foster proactive young leaders.
