The project upskilled adults in children’s living and learning spaces through training in storytelling, book-sharing, and play-based learning. It provided mentorship and high-quality home-language resources to establish reading corners in ECD centres and encourage reading at home, specifically to address learning gaps identified after the COVID-19 pandemic. 90 ECD Practitioners and 156 caregivers were trained (exceeding initial targets), while 250 storybooks and 350 anthologies were distributed to local children and 25 ECD centres. The project focused on communities in Orange Farm, Evaton, Katlehong, and Mohlakeng. It successfully utilised a “Theory of Change” that combined adult upskilling with the provision of physical reading resources to drive child development.
