The project addressed high dropout rates caused by poverty and hunger in the Kliptown community. Key actions included the distribution of complete uniform sets (shoes, socks, pants/dresses, shirts, and jerseys) and the daily provision of lunch boxes contai ning sandwiches, juice, and fruit for the children. Beyond physical needs, the project offered holistic educational support, including after-school meals, homework assistance 2 from dedicated caregivers, access to a computer lab, and extra classes in mathematics, English, and science. 100 children from Kliptown, Soweto, including 60 orphans and 40 children from vulnerable backgrounds were reached through the project. The project successfully delivered approximately 26,000 lunch boxes throughout the year. It was supported by local partnerships with businesses and individuals who contributed food, toiletries, and educational outings. The project had a profound impact on student performance, with teachers and caregivers noting significant improvements in children’s confidence, behaviour, and academic focus. Future phases aim to expand these successes by providing school stationery and inviting university volunteers to assist with weekend tutoring.
