The Chaeli Campaign

Disability inclusion and the empowerment of individuals with disabilities and their families.

This initiative established a new presence in Soweto and maintained established projects in Krugersdorp and Yeoville to cultivate active, inclusive communities. The project provided essential support networks and leadership development for disabled individ uals and their families.

The project successfully implemented four core, beneficiary-led activities: Parent Support Workshops (in-person and virtual), Youth Leadership Workshops empowering “Ambassadors” as social leaders, therapeutic Craft Workshops for soft-skill development, and Community Outreach via home visits to build trust with families. Facilitators with lived experience as parents of disabled children were key to building authentic relationships. The Chaeli Campaign was recently granted UN special consultative status to ECOSOC, which will enhance its ability to advocate for disability inclusion on a global scale and hold the South African government accountable.
